| A brief history of Enugu Ezike by Henry Odo Eya. September 1993Origin OF ENUGU EZIKE One school of thought, that we had usually relied about as real history, is the fact ENUGU-EZIKE experienced her unique descendants from Oba of Benin. The person who had been referred to as great grand fathers of ENUGU-EZIKE has got the name – " ENUGWU-EZIKE OBA ATTA IGARA BI IGBO N'IME”.  It is said that the Oba from the Western (Benin) moved to Onisha through Asaba, through the stream via Aguleri to Ebenebe, then arrived and settled at Enugu Ukwu all in Anambra Express. Enugu Ukwu has seeing that been considered to be the original residence of Ezike Oba- up till today; there is OKPUNO ZIKE in Enugwu Ukwu. In 1935, some 9 old men from ENUGU-EZIKE in this article went to testify in a court of law at Awka in a terrain dispute among Enugwu Ukwu and Enugwu Agidi in Awka area.  After settling there hunting and farming according to the tale, he shifted through the Anambra Rivers to Igabada after which to Idah both today in Kamgi State. He lived in Idah for sometime, moving together with the season in this hunting expedition, until each time, Ezike Oba shot a big elephant and followed the track of the wounded dog to Odoru and Agbokete in Idah zone. This pursuit extended through Ibagwa Ani – Ekoyi grooved up to Ugwu Eka (Hill) at Amube where the creature fell deceased. He finally settled by Amube Hillside, and wedded a woman known as Ukoji by Ekoyi in Iheaka. This kind of act of settling down on a hilltop from where he could very easily spot a, earned him the nick-name " ELUGWU” meaning " HILL-TOP”. All these put together ELUGWU EZIKE OBA. He later established pay out on a tape of property between Amube and Ekoyi. This strip of funds, hunting include clear association with history. Origins of almost all towns and neighborhoods cannot do without hunting, migration and settlement. Early man as being a wanderer and hunter.
